Ecuador state-owned company EP Petroecuador has signed a contract with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to carry out offshore well workovers at the Amistad natural gas field, in a move officials say will double output from the country’s only offshore asset and strengthen national energy security.

The agreement, signed this week in Quito, calls for the mobilization of a jack-up rig from China to Ecuador.
