Dangote has confirmed it is doubling its refinery capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day, with work officially underway to complete the expansion over the next three years. This plan will make it the largest refinery in the world, surpassing India’s Jamnagar Refinery.
The refinery’s output will increase from its initial 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.4 million bpd.
By the end of 2025, the facility will undergo a smaller, strategic upgrade to increase production to 700,000 bpd.
In addition to refined oil products, polypropylene production will increase from 900,000 to 2.4 million metric tons annually.
The expansion will be funded through cash flows and proceeds from an initial public offering (IPO) expected in 2026. Dangote plans to list at least 10% of the plant’s shares.
The expansion has been supported by Nigerian government policies, which Dangote credited for strengthening industrialization and creating a favorable environment for growth.
