NNPC Limited and its joint venture partner Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) officially announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery at the Awodi-07 well
The well is situated in the shallow offshore area of the western Niger Delta.
Findings revealed approximately 675 feet of total hydrocarbon pay, including 310 feet in appraisal reservoirs and 365 feet across six exploration sands.
Operations began in late November 2025 and were completed by mid-December 2025.
The project is a joint venture where NNPC Limited holds a 60% stake and Chevron holds 40% as the operator.
The Awodi-07 success marks Chevron’s third major discovery in Nigeria since late 2024. It supports Nigeria’s national target to reach a crude oil production level of 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2026 and eventually 2 million bpd by 2027. NNPC officials noted that the discovery validates the effectiveness of recent reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which aim to attract new investment and enhance national energy security.
