The Dangote Petroleum Refinery recently exported 456,000 metric tonnes of refined petroleum products to five African countries in March 2026.
The shipments, consisting of 12 cargoes, were sold on a Free on Board (FOB) basis to international traders and delivered to the following nations:
Côte d’Ivoire
Cameroon
Tanzania
Ghana
Togo
The cargoes primarily contained Euro V-standard gasoline (petrol) and diesel.
The exports follow the refinery reaching its full nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) in February 2026.
These shipments aim to fill a supply gap caused by disruptions in the Middle East, specifically the closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing Iran conflict.
Beyond Africa, the refinery also recently made history by exporting 320,000 barrels of gasoline to the United States (New York Harbor) for the first time.
The refinery, owned by Aliko Dangote (Africa’s richest person), is now positioning Nigeria as a central fuel hub to reduce to reduce the continent’s reliance on long-distance imports from Europe and Asia.
