Both bp and Shell have major upstream natural gas projects in Trinidad and Tobago targeting first gas in 2027. These developments are critical for maintaining gas supply to the country’s Atlantic LNG facility and domestic petrochemical industries.
BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) is progressing several developments as part of its global strategy to bring 10 major projects online by 2027.
Ginger Project:
Approved in early 2025, this project involves four subsea wells tied back to the existing Mahogany B platform.
First gas expeted in 2027.
Estimated at 62,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).
Coconut Project: A 50/50 joint venture with EOG Resources, where EOG serves as the operator.
First gas Targeted for 2027.
Manakin-Cocuina:
A cross-border field shared with Venezuela. bp is actively seeking US licenses to develop this field.
Shell is expanding its footprint in the East Coast Marine Area (ECMA) and pursuing large-scale cross-border opportunities.
Aphrodite Project:
An offshore gas development that will use a subsea tieback to the Barracuda network.
First gas Expected in 2027.
Projected at 107 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscf/d).
Manatee Project: A major development of the Loran-Manatee cross-border field.
First gas Targeted for late 2027 or early 2028.
Expected to reach approximately 104,000 boed.
Dragon Field:
A project in Venezuelan waters intended to supply gas to Trinidad. Shell, along with the National Gas Company (NGC), is targeting first production as early as the fourth quarter of 2027, pending licensing and geopolitical stability.
