The Nguya FLNG unit has arrived offshore the Republic of Congo to join Eni’s Congo LNG project, with its first cargo expected in the first quarter of 2026. The project’s first phase, using the Tango FLNG, has been operational since December 2023 and has already exported several cargoes.
Once the Nguya unit is fully online, the Congo LNG project’s total capacity will reach 3 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of LNG.
Unit Capacities:
Tango FLNG: This first unit has a capacity of 0.6 Mtpa and began exporting in February 2024.
Nguya FLNG: This second, larger unit has a capacity of 2.4 Mtpa.
The Nguya unit was built in a record time of 33 months from contract award to sail away. It is expected to come online by the end of 2025. While start-up is targeted for late 2025, the first cargo from this specific unit is anticipated in Q1 2026.
The facilities are deployed in the Marine XII block, approximately 50 kilometers offshore Pointe-Noire, in the Republic of Congo.
Storage: The Nguya unit has storage capacity for over 180,000 cubic meters of LNG and 45,000 cubic meters of LPG.
The Congo LNG project is a key initiative for Eni’s goal of diversifying its energy supply and establishing the Republic of Congo as an LNG exporting country.
