To maintain this high output, the refinery has been importing roughly 24 million barrels of crude oil monthly from the U.S. and other sources to supplement local Nigerian supply.
Reports from outlets like CNBC Africa and Reuters indicate that while production is at record highs, local airlines still face challenges as the refinery prices its products according to global market rates.
