Eni has been awarded a Reconnaissance Permit Agreement covering five deepwater blocks in Sierra Leone: G113, G129, G130, G131, and G132. The agreement was signed with the Government of Sierra Leone, through the Petroleum Directorate, around October 31, 2025.
The blocks cover an area of approximately 6,790 square kilometers within Sierra Leone’s territorial waters.
The agreement grants Eni the rights to conduct reconnaissance and technical evaluation activities, including advanced geological and geophysical studies. A reconnaissance permit is typically a non-exclusive license that allows a company to perform preliminary, non-intrusive studies to evaluate potential for future exploration.
The goal is to assess the potential for commercially viable oil and gas finds, laying the groundwork for potential future exploration and drilling.
This marks Eni’s first major engagement in Sierra Leone’s offshore domain and is seen as a significant step in the country’s efforts to attract international investment and unlock its offshore potential.
