Halliburton has been awarded a significant integrated drilling and completion services contract by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), a subsidiary of Shell, for the development of the HI gas field offshore Nigeria. This reflects a long-standing collaboration between the two companies in Nigeria’s upstream sector.
The HI gas field, located in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 144, approximately 50 kilometers from the Nigerian coast.
The project aims to supply 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Train 7 facility.
Halliburton’s Halliburton’s Project Management team will oversee the execution and integrate multiple services to provide end-to-end drilling solutions. The company plans to deploy advanced technologies, including LOGIX™️ automation and remote operations, to enhance drilling precision, efficiency, and safety.
The HI project is a joint venture between Sunlink Energies and Resources Limited (60%) and SNEPCo (40%).
Halliburton and Shell in Nigeria
Both companies have a history of operations in Nigeria. Halliburton operates in the country through entities such as Halliburton West Africa Limited and Halliburton Energy Services Nigeria Limited. This recent contract strengthens their ongoing working relationship, which dates back many years.
Shell has been present in Nigeria since 1936, though it recently divested its interest in the SPDC onshore oil production joint venture to focus on its Deepwater and Integrated Gas businesses, which include projects like the HI gas field.
